Shop at home; keep Houston County strong

Dear Editor:

We know that our county and city tax dollars have declined. We depend on these dollars, for so many services. We have seen some local businesses close, which is not only sad, but makes us wonder if we could have helped keep these businesses alive.

It is always optimistic to see a new business open with positive expectations. But how can we help be a positive part of these new businesses as well as the established businesses?

Why shop at home? This is your community and the retailers are your friends and neighbors. These are people you see at church, school activities, and work with on community projects.

Each business is their personal investment in this community to provide a service for you. It is convenient and cost efficient with less travel time and travel expense; customer service is more personal at a local level; you can talk directly to the owners of businesses and our area offers many unique businesses and services.

Your dollars turn over several times in the com-munity, which helps all of us. As businesses succeed, it encourages new businesses. As businesses grow and expand, it provides more employment in the area.

More employment means more tax dollars. More tax dollars mean more growth.
